Because it is Thursday. And this song and video are amazing.

Unknown Pleasures

Now, I'm all for a graphic t-shirt, and usually I'm all over anything Joy Division-related but this latest release from Disney just doesn't sit right with me. Disney have released a t-shirt base don the famous Unknown Pleasures album artwork, but in the shape of Mickey Mouse's head...

It just seems odd that a brand associated with children and happiness, choose to have a cover associated with a band who's singer committed suicide and are generally associated with tragedy. A weird sense of irony.

Maybe it's a joke, but they seem to be selling them in their online store...

Vegan cupcakes!

Just a quick post about a new book I bought. I was trying not to buy anything this week as I am so broke. Pay day is not until the 31st so it's definitely a week for a tight budget. BUT, in my quest for health I am trying to find lower-fat and healthier alternatives to cakes. After some research, vegan cakes seemed like a good option - egg and butter-free has got to make them slightly healthier, right?!

I read a lot of reviews and this book always came out as a favourite, the ingredients can be a little hard to find I think but I'll post any cakes I do end up making.

The authors have also done a cookie book, and one about pies as well as a book on vegan cooking in general (I plan to buy this one one as soon as I get paid!)

Song of the day: Pawner

I cannot get enough of this song. It's the opening track off Polar Bear Club's 2011 album 'Clash Battle Guilt Pride' and it's near-perfect. It's rare to find an opening track that's so... honest? I don't know. Just something about it, can't stop listening to it.

A busy week...

1. I went to see The Artist a couple of days ago, it lived up to all of the hype. I always go and see a film like that with a sense of trepidation, it had been built up so much and I was so excited to see it that it could easily have disappointed. It really was beautiful, and to those who are worried about the lack of dialogue, after the first 5 minutes it's barely noticeable.

2. I booked (well, my housemate booked) tickets to see Frank Turner at Wembley in April. It should be amazing show and a really different venue to see someone like that in. I've never seen folk music played in such a large venue before, except at a festival, so I'm intrigued to see how it is! I've seen Frank Turner a few times, at festivals or more intimate shows, but this one promises to be big, it should be an amazing night.

3. My friend has just sent me this link to a new recording by Bon Iver, it's a cover of what is described on the site as a 'grim, traditional murder ballad'. If you're a Bon Iver fan I'd recommend it.

4. I'm really enjoying these typographical versions of the London Underground by FadeOutDesign. Might have to purchase one on pay day....

Song of the day: Sweet Baby James

I'm aware that my song posts have been a bit 1970s heavy in the past week, but that decade produced some of the best music. Sometimes think I might have been born in the wrong era...

I've had a really busy weekend, fitted a lot in and made my first visit to Brighton! Will post a full update later in the week, but here's a hint: I loved it (no surprise there).
